ABSTRACT

The title of this work is perceived influence of industrial action on students’ academic achievements in public Secondary Schools in Delta State. Prominent disruption of academic calendar and the ridiculed academic performance of students owing to frequent disruption of lessons posed as the rationale behind the intention of this study.In the quest of exploring this study, 5 objectives of study, 5 research questions and 5 hypotheses were adopted for the study.Relevant literatures relating to influence of industrial action on students’ academic achievements in Secondary School students were discussed. Various forms of industrial action which include lock out, picketing, overtime ban, Go-slow, work-to-rule, were found to be forms of industrial actions which could impede academic performances whenever they occur. The research design employed for this research was the descriptive survey design. Using stratified sampling technique, a sample size of 388 respondents was selected for the study. The instrument used for data collection in the course of the study was a questionnaire titled “Perceived influence of industrial actions on students’ academic achievement questionnaire (PIIASAAQ)”. A total of 388 questionnaire with 30 questions items were distributed to elicit response from the various strata of respondents and a total of 350 questionnaire were retrieved.  Data generated in this study were analyzed using mean, mean set, rank order statistics, and z-test statistical tool.
