ABSTRACT

This study investigated gender and educational qualification as determinants of parental self efficacy among parents of children with disabilities in Obio Akor Local government. Three research questions and three hypotheses were used for the study.  The correlational research design was used for this study. The population of the study consisted of all the parents with children with disabilities  in Obio Akpor local government. The sample size of 100 that was used for this study was determined using the snowball sampling techniques. The instrument used for the  was  titled: gender and educational qualification as determinants of parental self efficacy among parents of children with disabilities (GEDPSPCD).  Furthermore, the various coefficients obtained were all above the accepted co-efficient of 0.60 and therefore guaranteed the use of the instrument for the study. The data analysis techniques that was used for the study were basically descriptive statistical measures which include tables, frequencies, and simple percentages, and the hypotheses was  tested using the Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient. The findings of this work revealed that there is a significant relationship between  gender, educational qualification and the parental self efficacy among parents of children with disabilities. The study proposes that these results are important in creating intervention experiences that foster parental self-efficacy through involvement, productive training experiences, and addressing parental burden. The study recommends that there is a need for interventions aimed at supporting parents in dealing with emotional consequences of their child’s disability.
