ABSTRACT

 

This study seeks to investigate “ethical appraisal of christian marriage and contemporary Rivers state”. The population of the study consist of  married couples in Rivers State. The elements of the population was made up of males and females. For the purpose of this study, four objectives of study and four research questions were drawn to guide the study. Relevant literatures and concepts relating to the study were reviewed. To achieve this purpose, the researcher uses descriptive survey design to explore opinions on “ethical appraisal of Christian marriage and contemporary Rivers state”. The sampling technique was stratified simple random sampling technique. The researcher randomly selected 5 local governments from which  300 people was selected as respondents. The primary source of data was collected through personal interview. Data collected was statistically treated using simple percentages. The findings of the study revealed among others thatNo Christian family can be anything less than a ``domestic church'' for others, healing first its own brokenness and then reaching out to heal the brokenness in the communities in which it exists. Service to the society in which they live is the responsibility of all Christians, married or unmarried. Sacramental/covenantal marriage adds only the specification that the spouses exercise their service as part of their marital life. Many couples are not careful in the choice of their marriage partners. Some of them rely on their dreams but they forget that some dreams are only psychological and not revelatory. Based on the findings recommendations were made and conclusions drawn.
